Me showing off my patriotism
Me showing off my patriotism
BRUUUUCE!!! BRUUUCE!!! Every time I get on stage my fans scream my name, cheering for me to keep playing. I am Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen. My birthday is on September 23rd, 1949. I was BORN IN THE U.S.A! Freehold, New Jersey is what I called home for 18 years of my life; it was my hometown. I am of Dutch, Irish, and Italian descent. Adele and Douglas Springsteen are my parents and I was their first born. I have two younger sisters Virgina "Ginny" Springsteen, born in 1950, and Pamela Springsteen, born in 1962. I went to school at The Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School, from grades one through eight, and Freehold Regional High School, for grades nine through twelve.

When I was eight I saw Elvis on the Ed Sullivan Show. After that show I wanted a guitar just like he had. When my parents got it for me, but I only posed with it and lost interest in learning to play. Then, when I turned thirteen I took another interest in learning to play the guitar. This time I payed the whole $18 for it. I learned how to play my first chords from my cousin, Frank Bruno Jr. I joined a band called The Castilles, but went to other bands Earth, Child, later called Steel Mill, the Sundance Blues Band, and finally the Bruce Springsteen Band. Ocean County College is where I went for college, but only for three semesters before dropping out.

I signed my first record deal in 1972 and my band was called the E Street Band. Fellow bands members included Gary Tallent, Clarence Clemons, Danny Federici, Vini Lopez, and David Sancious. At first the E Street Band wasn't successful but then finally in 1975 we hit it big with the album Born to Run. That album had smash-hits like Born to Run, Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out, Thunder Road, and Jungleland. Since then the E Street Band and I have put out multiple albums. Those albums are:
  • Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.
  • The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle
  • Born to Run
  • Darkness on the Edge of Town
  • The River
  • Nebraska
  • Born in the U.S.A.
  • Tunnel of Love
  • Human Touch
  • Lucky Town
  • The Ghost of Tom Joad
  • The Rising
  • Devils & Dust
  • We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions
  • Magic
  • Working on a Dream
  • The Promise
